
Professor Jan Feijen received his PhD in 1970 from the University of Groningen after which he became an assistant professor of materials science and technology at the University of Twente. Since 1978, Professor Feijen has been a visiting professor of pharmaceutics at the University of Utah and in 1989, he became an affiliate professor in bioengineering at the University of Washington in Seattle. From 1980 onwards, he has been professor of polymer chemistry and biomaterials and is currently also the scientific director of the Institute for Biomedical Technology at the University of Twente. He is one of the founding editors of the Journal of Controlled Release, an editor of the International Journal of Artificial Organs and an editorial board member of six other renowned journals. He is also the co-founder of 4 successful university spin-outs.
